The mistri and the contractors without the civil engineering knowledge but with only pure experience they began to start their own construction without the help of any civil engineers or architects.
The mistri with his experience understands the things wrongly like
1. for every 10’ a column of size 9”x9” is enough.
2. The slab thickness on the first floor can be less than the thickness on the ground floor.
3. Providing 4Nos 12mm for a column will withstand the load.
4. Providing cut lintels
And so on , the fact is they just memorize things like this without knowning the working process , the load distribution, the norms and rules in IS standards.
Ultimately what happens is for providing a 1’ column and mason provides 9” columns and Vice versa. The cost in construction is reduced and people simply provide the contracts to the masons and non technical contractors by comparing the cost alone. Which in future will cause cracks and lack in life span of the building.
